Hello, we just bought a new MAC running OS X 10.8. We are having trouble getting drivers for our Scanjet 5400c scanner. The MAC install disc, when inserted, says that classic mode is not supported. So, I looked online for drivers at the HP website only to find that my OS was not selectible. This scanner isn't supported on Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) and later, since HP uses a PowerPC plugin for this scanner and Rosetta isn't available with 10.7 and later. On Mac OS X prior to 10.7, you need to use the x32 version of VueScan 9.0.96 with Rosetta. To do this: Click on the VueScan icon while holding the Control key Choose 'Get Info'.

Please assign your manual to a product: Apparently, this will allow you to use the scanner with Image Capture or any app that supports it Photoshop, MS Word, etc. Select all Deselect all. Sane is a bit slower than the original Windows scanhet, but it is much faster than launching Windows for it….

Using drivers downloaded from HP website, I was able to make it work. Opened system Preferences click Sane 3. I have no idea what to do. But this one I really don’t Click OK to ignore and close the message.
