Although these are the most commonly reported errors, you may also encounter booting issues or issues with your Mojave startup drive.

In this blog post, we discuss the issues with startup drive and solutions to resolve the same. To start with, we use a feature called Disk Utility that is present on your Mac machines. It is a great tool that is particularly useful when you’re Mac has booting issues.

Solution 1: Use Disk Utility

If your Mac isn’t starting, you can enter Disk Utility through the recovery menu using the following steps.

  1. Power ON your Mac and as soon as you hear the startup sound, click on Command + R
  2. In the recovery menu, choose Disk Utility and click Continue
  3. Select the startup disk (usually named Macintosh HD) from the menu in the left sidebar and click on First Aid
  4. Click Yes in the pop-up ‘Would you like to run First Aid on Apple HDD’ that opens
  5. Disk Utility performs a set of verification processes; if no errors are found, you will be displayed with a success message
  6. If it finds any problems, you will be asked to repair the drive. Click on Repair Disk and allow Disk Utility to repair the drive

Performing these steps will repair the Mojave startup drive and now you should be able to boot into your system normally. Similarly, you can also use Disk Utility to repair other drives, external storage devices etc. using the same steps.

Solution 2: Use Safe Mode

Safe mode is designed to perform disk check and repair startup issues. To start Safe Mode, restart your Mac and when you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Shift key. Now, if your system boots fine, try booting the system in normal mode. If it works, it means that Safe Mode has fixed the issue for you. If the issue still persists, proceed to the next step.

Solution 3: Use Single User Mode

To enter Single User mode, press Command + S when you’re Mac boots. You will enter a command line interface; here type ‘/sbin/fsck –fy’.

This will check your disk and repair issues with system files. If all goes well, your Mojave startup drive will be fixed and you should be able to boot into your system normally.

If nothing works..

If none of these methods help you repair the startup drive, the last option is for you to reinstall OS and try booting your system. But before you do so, make sure you recover all data from the system.

However, if you haven’t had a chance to back up and you’ve reinstalled OS; chances are your data is gone.
