Dec 04, 2019  OS: Catalina 10.15.1. Looks like there's an issue with the HDMI port or Driver interacting with this particular monitor (LG 27UK850). Workaround: switch over. Wondering how to connect my early 2015 13 inch MacBook Pro with the Retina Display to my new LG 27UK850-W 4K monitor. I have read several methods but want to know the best one, especially whether it's possibly to just connect them through one HDMI 2.0 cable and get 4K (upscaled) video and normal audio. Using wid Mac mini, It didn’t come with Thunderbolt 3 port but usb C, All cable included usb C, Hdmi and DP(1.2 n not 1.4 I think). I love LG because to an extend they sell products in India same price to US market unlike any other company. Every other company sell products in.

This LG monitor supports USB-C and Thunderbolt. The Thunderbolt 3 charges the Mac mini, and the three USB-C ports offer 5Gbps downstream. Its 27 inches big, which is about the size of Apple's larger iMac, and has a similar P3 wide color gamut with 500 nits brightness. For full 5K resolution on a larger display, the UltraFine 5K is your perfect choice.

The LG 27UK850-W displays a beautiful 4K picture. Colors are gorgeous and FreeSync is a bonus for AMD users. But the price premium for HDR is a bit much – especially considering there are great 4K monitors for half the price. Until HDR makes some developmental strides in computer monitors it’s hard to give a full endorsement, despite its excellent picture quality.

Even though the LG 27UK850-W 4K Monitor is designed for gaming and other ‘heavy’ display functions, I think it’s a really nice all-around monitor. The picture quality is impeccable and my eyes aren’t tired after using it for several hours at a time. The LG monitor retails for around $700 currently and that seems to be a bit on the high side of the price spectrum. At a glance, there appear to be many 27-inch 4K UHD monitors between $400-500. While I haven’t compared them side-by-side with this LG monitor, a $700 price tag seems just a bit high. Aside from that, I really don’t have any major issues with this product.
